Flood-Disaster in Kurnool.  

Since Oct. 5th until Dec. 31st 2009 for the Flood-Disaster
37,777.47 Euro have been donated.

to support the poorest children to attain a school-education,
for enabling them a way out of poverty.

The trust - Children Are Our Future e.V. - is managed
by voluntary aides and assistants and members
and underlies no administative costs.

Flood-Disaster in South-India

"The retaining dam was opened too late or broke. Anyway, now Kurnool is set under water. Only slowly the water-level lowers. All what is left are damaged houses and suffocation in mud. When the monsoon rain will continue to pour down, the flood may return.

30,000 houses or huts are totally destroyed. There are realms of homeless people in Kurnool and surroundings. The schools and village-schools at its environments are also hit. Thanks God, the Sri Bala Saibaba Residential School is left untroubled.

Along the furious river, which flows at the outskirts of Kurnool, everything is devastated. Big misery. But also in wide parts of India there are floods. And next week a further low pressure weather area is expected. 

For some days now, there was no further distress - no rains. At least not in Hyderabad.

It was like a sintflood — a real drama. Affliction without limits.

Nevertheless, the Trust is providing food for hundreds of children and people on daily basis, so that the homeless do not starve at least. "The prices for food rose 3 times the normal cost. The price of fuel has doubled and all costs of living have tripled." (Bernida Zangl)

Further actual Informations

40.000 people had being evacuated. Milions of people in the Indian states of Karnataka und Andhra Pradesh have lost their homes after the heavy rainfalls during last weeks. Like officials indicated, more than 250 people have lost their lives.
"Doctors without Borders" has sent two Teams for treating the afflicted population in the Districts of Kurnool und Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh. The Team in Kurnool will supply 1,000 Kits of utensils for daily life, like cooking-utensils, hygienic-material und plastic-canvases for building tents.

"Lots of displaced people are under shock and they are afraid. The situation here ist very chaotic", Simon Burroughs from Doctors without Borders at Andhra Pradesh said. It is difficult to reach out to the affected people, because all infrastuctures are damaged. Bridges and railways are taken away by the floods. Some people landed on isolated places and cannot be reached by streets. The team concentrates now on getting an overview about the total situation and the needs of the people, and they hope they can start as soon as possible with their assistance."

55.000 children are getting a school-education at the moment.
